Alex and Meagan 2 weeks into training at NSCF taking on Murph!
Dave, Tara, Danny, Brent & all my other fantastic NSCF trainers,
This week marks the one year anniversary for Alex and I as members of Northshore CrossFit, and I just wanted to take a few minutes to thank you all. A few of you may have heard this story, but before Alex and I moved to Beverly and joined NSCF, Alex would take me to his gym (Boston Sports Club) and attempt to whatever WOD was listed on the Crossfit.com website. Well, not once, but TWICE I ended up sprawled out on the disgusting bathroom floor of BSC, moments away from passing out and/or throwing up. Even though I had been an athlete and was on some type of sports team for the majority of my life, I apparently had totally forgotten how to breathe, pace myself, and was obviously very out of shape. Also, suffering from a knee injury for the previous few years wasn't helping anything.
Once we were settled in Beverly, Alex sought out NSCF, met Dave and more or less dragged in me to meet him as well. After seeing the gym, being welcomed by Dave, talking through the NSCF programs, and with some "encouragement" from Alex, I decided that I'd try it for 1 month. It was only a month, I could handle that… and worst case, if I hated it, I hadn't signed any contracts, so I could just bail! Well, since then I've been to the gym pretty much 5-6 times a week and I have never once looked back!! Never had I ever been to a gym where the owners and trainers actually care if you show up! I pretty much knew right from the get-go that this was the place for me to work-out. I haven't stuck with a fitness program for this long, ever in my life… and I have no plans to quit now!
I've made tremendous strides since I started working out at NSCF… and haven't once ended up on a bathroom floor, just about ready to die! Well, I've felt ready to pass out/throw up after workouts, but only because I've pushed myself really hard! I can now do things I never thought I'd do… kipping pull-ups, a 500m row in under 2 minutes, double-unders, a 200 lbs. deadlift & a whole bunch of olympic lifts I never thought I'd ever even try, and the list goes on and on. Crossfit has also helped rehab my knee. While I still experience soreness once in a while, I am no longer compensating for the pain like I used to, I have equal strength in my legs and can actually run to my car when it's pouring rain outside without suffering from sharp, shooting knee pain!
The community at NSCF is unlike any other. It's so unique and is truly the reason why I will continue to show up at the gym 5-6 days a week for as long as I can! Sometimes I'm working out with complete strangers, and sometimes I'm working out with people with whom I've become pretty good friends with… either way, I feel like we are all on the same team. It doesn't matter if you're a guy, girl, young, old, can lift 15 lbs. or 215 lbs., everyone is doing it together, and everyone knows the glorious pain that every one else is in! This is why no matter how hard the WOD is… once it's over, I forget about all the pain and sweat, and look forward to the next one!
I know that working w/ "the public" is a really hard job, and is sometimes thankless, so I just wanted to be sure that you received my sincere thanks for the past year. Your commitment to the programming and your clients doesn't go unnoticed. It's very much appreciated. Thank you for all the time and effort you all put in.
Here's to the next 12 months!!
